Halifax

The rain had been relentless on my three-day autumnal visit to Halifax, Nova Scotia. It hadn’t slowed me down, though. I’d checked out the city’s Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic and the fascinating Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21. But my photos were a bit of a washout. Until the final day my trip, that is, when the pewter-grey clouds suddenly parted and a fresh blue sky spilled out like a luminous tapestry. My response? I speed-walked straight up Duke Street to the Citadel, a National Historic Site that’s also the city’s landmark visual. Snapping away as the sun dried the sidewalks, I looked along the street and saw a line of other camera-wielding visitors doing exactly the same thing. Everyone, it seemed, had been patiently waiting for this signature photo opportunity.
