Day 01

Begin Your Canadian Winter Vacation

The cool, crisp air in Vancouver is invigorating as you start your Canadian winter train vacation. Vancouver’s relatively mild weather is a great introduction but look to the north to discover Vancouver’s coastal mountains covered in pure white snow.

Day 02

VIA Rail - Depart Vancouver

Begin your train journey east, as you board The Canadian train in Vancouver. Travel through the varied landscape of British Columbia's Fraser Valley.

Check-in at Pacific Central Station and relax in the first-class lounge. Leave coastal Vancouver behind, as you journey towards the Rocky Mountains. Mingle with fellow passengers in one of the train's lounges, or settle into your private cabin and watch the ever-changing scenery.

VIA Rail – Arrive in Jasper National Park

Continue northeast through the Caribou Mountains and enter the spectacular Canadian Rockies.

Explore Jasper

Jasper is a great base to explore Jasper National Park – the largest park in the Canadian Rockies. This small mountain town offers visitors a more laid-back mountain experience with equal options for adventure, discovery and relaxation.

Strap on some ice cleats and walk the floor of Maligne Canyon today with an expert guide and small group. Learn about Jasper’s Maligne Valley and disappearing Medicine Lake as you explore, surrounded by icefalls and rock formations that will take your breath away.

Dog Sledding Tour (Extra Cost)

Experience the undisturbed beauty of winter with a dog sled team. Enjoy the crisp mountain air, then warm up with a hearty lunch cooked over an open campfire along the trail. Learn about the history of dog sledding, and spend some time with your new-found furry friends.

Travel the Icefields Parkway to Lake Louise

Welcome the fresh mountain air with a warm cup of coffee before you get ready to make your journey to Lake Louise today. Once there, you will have yet another wonderful landscape to admire and explore.

There is no better way to spend time together than taking in the beauty of sparkling snow on a horse-drawn sleigh ride. Enjoy views of the Château Lake Louise and spectacular, natural mountain scenery along the way.

  • Occasionally, activities may vary at time of travel due to weather conditions. Your Vacation Advisor will provide advice on the best timing for outdoor winter activities.
  • Activity options are limited over Dec 24–26 and on Jan 1, your Vacation Advisor will provide advice on your available options.

SEASONAL RESTRICTIONS

  • The Panorama car is not available in winter months (mid October to end of April) or on Monday departures from Vancouver.
  • Onboard VIA Rail: From April 29 to Oct 12, Sleeper Plus passengers will be able to access the Park Car between 4:00pm and 10:30pm only.
  • Maligne Canyon Icewalk Tour: Departures in December and late March/April can not be guaranteed as the tour is weather dependent and requires optimal snow and ice conditions to operate.
  • Lake Louise Sleigh Ride: This tour is weather dependent and relies on optimal snow conditions in order to operate, departures in December and April could be affected.
  • Dog Sledding Tour in Lake Louise: Departures in early December and late March/April may be affected due to weather conditions and not optimal snow conditions. Tours do not operate when temperatures are below - 25 degrees Celsius for the safety of the dogs, guides and guests.
